In the Land of Ishi (pic heavy)

Overnight : Ishi Wilderness, far northern California.

This trip was a overnight, access scouting mission in preparation for future exploration into this vast and temperamental, 41,000 acre wilderness. While I have lived my entire life just out of "across-town" distance from this historically and geographically significant tract of land, I had never set foot upon Ishi's ancestral homeland. This of course had to be amended! And upon seeing it, Ishi Wilderness emits an eerie tug on the spirit. She will be walked!

Already 20 miles from the nearest paved road.

Onward...hell of a drive for an overnighter!



What could be around this corner? Black Rock!





Down below, other side! Swimming hole? You bet when it hits 110+ !

When you take in the scope, and unforgiving terrain of the area, you begin to understand just how Ishi and his people remained the last "wild" native holdouts in North America.





After arriving at the trailhead, we headed North East along Mill Creek and found a spot. My favorite time! Camp time! Hammock Time!

Got a bit of Bushcraftin in. My buddy Keith's first ever attempt at flint and steel. I attribute his swift success to an outstanding teacher! Oh yea!
