    Hello from upper East TN

Hey guys. I'm considering getting into hammock camping if I can ever figure out what works for me. When I camp, it's usually light and fast. I work a lot and don't get a lot of free time.

I'm a 36 y/o guy from East TN. I work in a factory as a maintenance mechanic and volunteer with my local rescue squad. Search and Rescue is one of my favorite aspects of that service. I'm thinking a hammock might be a great addition to my search pack. Not only in case I have to spend a night in the woods, but just for putting up on a break to take it easy for a few minutes.

My experience is limited to a Hammock Bliss hammock that I have and some experience with tarps. I'm trying to find a hammock that will allow a heavy guy (220 lbs) to sleep on my side or even my stomach. I've tried sleeping in my Hammock Bliss hammock on my back and I just can never get comfortable enough to go to sleep. All suggestions welcome!

Welcome to the site. Take your time wading through all of the info. If you have any questions, just ask.

Most people who have a hard time getting comfortable in their hammocks don't have it hung at the correct angles or are not laying on a diagonal. But, sometimes it may just be the style. A bridge hammock does allow easier side sleeping and sleeping on your stomach.

    Good luck.

Welcome from a Erwin, TN boy currently living in PA.

You are correct "Upper East Tennessee" NOT "Upper Eastern Tennessee".

Welcome from a little futher down the valley. If you are a side or stomach sleeper, you definitely may want to explore bridge hammocks. Glad you're here and thanks for your service to the community.

Hey guys! Thanks for the replies!

Glad to meet a couple locals. I've been to Erwin a few times. VERY pretty town and area up there! Wouldn't mind living there myself! I camp in the Greene County area a lot.

And Les, I was born in Athens! All of my extended family still lives down there- Etowah, Ten Mile, Decatur, Englewood, etc. Small world!

Welcome from the west side of the state! If you get a chance to go to a group hang, you'll get a chance to see a lot of different gear.
    It'll be alright Friday!

How'd I miss this thread?! I'm a East Tn native too.... welcome from the Tri-Cities area.
Have you looked at a longer hammock like a Wilderness Logic's or Butt in a Sling Hammock? They are 11 ft and believe me the first time I tried one I was sold. 11 ft seems to be a magic number for a lot of Folks. 220lbs isn't that heavy, you can get away with a 1.7 weight fabric in a single layer or a double layer 1.1. Which with double layered types you can slide a pad in between so it stays put.
