I love these little things. I used them about a month ago in some high winds, 20-30 mph I'm guessing. I had a half hitch for safety and they held without a problem. When I drove out from my site in the morning there was a large tree down that had taken out the power lines.
I got a 25 pack on eBay. Love them so far.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
I've had no slipping with 1.75mm zing-it in the *mini* lineloks with no back up half hitch. The minis are ~5/8" long in the longest dimension.
Mouse, I just checked, and they are the right size according to clean's measurements below. I will definitely try a half hitch, that's something I hadn't thought of.
Clean, I wish I had better experiences. Maybe I'll revisit how I attached them. These are too easy for me not to use them.
Hilo, I don't know if it matters but I am using them in the manner described in this thread.
Also I am using the glow-in-the-dark version previously sold in the hammock forum store, not the black ones.
That's what I had been using as well.
I did some testing, and I think there is a quality control issue. At least with the batch I received. Out of 9 tested (lost one I think), 3 barely hold any tension, 2 are great, and 4 are in between there. Maybe I'll pick up some more as well as try the half hitch.
Sounds like you're right with the quality control thought. Hope you can make them work for you in some way.
