    There is a difference though.

Hanging jugs worry me as their handles are not meant exactly for this application.
Besides, this implies that I either carry the darn jug on the entire trip - or buy my water, which does not sound attractive.

Water bags, on the other hand, are at least made to hang.... although not from moving vehicles.

I carry just enough water for the day, then load up before going to camp. I plan my gas/food/water stops according to availability. Beer for the evening at camp ;^)

I repurpose smaller gatorade bottles. One in my tank bag, one in my small backpack for the day. Distributes the weight better IMHO. Then I'll fill a small bladder or
Nalgene bottles for camp. I use to carry alot of water in my panniers or back of bike till I discovered I could feel the added weight.

i fill my camelbak... it's three liters(100 oz) can be filled everywhere... i carry a filter if it's that kind of trip but usually i am stopped for lunch/supper so i would restock then... when i stop and need a drink i just kneel next to the saddle bag or stand at the back of the bike if it's in the pack and get a drink... usually when i get gas i will take a few sips or gulps if it's summer time... i will usually pick up a gatorade or at least have some packets on hand to replace electrolytes, and also i get tired of drinking water at the end of the day...

    Thanks,

I'm a member and perusing the wisdom on that site, but thought (astutely ) that this one may have more of it to offer.
