I ordered a set of doors for my Edge tarp a couple days ago. I was in the same situation...love my Edge, but wanted a little more protection in nasty weather. I decided to try out doors vs. adding the Superfly at this time.

sturgeon: What are your thoughts about adding doors to the Edge tarp?

You might also want to consider the grizz beaks for the edge. They are a bit heavier than plain doors, but the vertical opening (as compared to the inner sloping doors) gives a bit more room under the tarp. They take a bit longer to set up, but nothing major.
Plus I hear that cuben versions might appear.

Made this tarp years ago....roughly same size as the Edge. Call mine BlackCrow.
I added grosgrain tabs on the bottom edge about 24" in and I can use those to close off the ends as doors. Cozy but effective.

I bought doors after a cold windy night in Killarney when the wind robbed my heat. I played with them on several occasions. I carried half the kit, for one side wind blockage, when backpacking, to keep down weight, but never had cause to use them backpacking. But I used them once, on a canoe trip, when camped on a windy point where the only good trees meant the open tarp end was toward the lake and the cool wind. I was happy to have the doors that night. Made a big difference.

They are fast to set up, if you practise at home, thanks to different coloured tabs.

I also bought them thinking, "Get them now, you don't know how long a cottage vendor will be in business...later you might wish you had bought them."
Now that sounds foolish, since Warbonnet isn't going anywhere, but at the time i was thinking complete sets and resale value.

You probably have an Edge because you care about weight. leaving half the door kit at home, your Edge plus one side of doors is 10 oz. + 3.6 oz. and $160. Edge plus full door kit is 17.2 oz. and still $160. Superfly is 19 oz. and $130.

If you are going to carry both sides of the door kit, you might as well get a superfly, carry the 1.8 extra ounces (51 grams) and save $30. And enjoy the palace.

BTW i just got a cloudburst tarp and ridgerunner for canoe camping. More time in camp, more cooking on the campsite, more chance of no-travel windbound days. But for hiking, i think i will stick to edge, half door kit, and blackbird.

sorry for the long reply...hard to stop me once i build up a head of steam...

Superfly arrived today. Man, that's a lot of material compared to my Edge! Can't wait to get out with it.
