Thanks for watching. She is a great dog, but you're right about them being bad to have in warmer climates.

Yeah, there were a couple planes up there playing around. Looked like fun.

I'm curious why you keep Tala tethered to you while you walk? My last retriever lived in the bush with me when I worked in forestry, and one thing I never had on me was a leash of any sort, or a collar on her either.
I keep her leashed for a couple reasons. First, it's just proper trail etiquette. You are supposed to have dogs on a leash while on hiking trails and I wouldn't want to ruin having dogs on the trail for anyone. Also, Huskies are really terrible off leash and it isn't smart to let them off. Even with my dog Kiba who is excellent off leash, I will still tether her up while hiking. When we are in camp I will let her off though.

Thanks man. It sure was a winter wonderland out there.

Great adventure Fronkey. It takes a lot of brass to tackle such a hike in the winter, glad you two are home safe and warm.
    Good luck,

Thanks for the info Fronkey. I've never been on an official trail with a dog before. It's always been true backcountry. Never ran into another person, just animals. My last retriever was a dream in the bush. Never wandered. And always followed the same route on the way back, walking under every piece of flagging we hung. I suspect that Tala is using her nose the same to follow the hiking trail, even buried under the snow.

Looks like tons of fun. Maybe one day I can make up to the Superior Hiking Trail. Thru hiking sure would be fun!

When I am in camp or off trail, Kiba really won't be on a leash either. It's fun when you can have them wander with you and not get lost.
