I make fire with flint and steel, you can use char cloth, or punk wood, its about the same. gathering food is pretty good, as long as you know what to look for. I would like to go if the timing is right..

See ya at the Hoosier Hang..

Cool! I have a steel, no flint. Have used a borrowed piece, in the 5 minutes I had it, couldn't get a spark. So I hope you can come, plus would be good to see you again. I have to wait for Matt compatible temps or he will "Freeze to death" and I am only off on alternating weekends (Thurs thru Sun) having to work tomorrow (3/8/13) thru Monday.

If I can make this trip, I would bring only my bug out bag and see the "real-life" capabilities it has.

I think with a well made B.O.B a weekend should be a cake walk.

Mine is pretty well thought-out and studied. It's honestly a near perfect mix of urban/rural capabilities, just because of where I live.

I'm due for a real hands-on test here pretty soon though!

    Survival weekend?

In this part of the world it's all about fire and shelter in a B.O.B, I have 20 home made fire starters and three tarps. One nice thing is I don't have to carry water.

Sounds like fun. I'll have to see if I can make it once you set a date. I'd like to see what I can do with the stuff I have in my pockets/on my belt on a typical day.

Skills I really need to learn &/or practice:
    Shelter building.
Fire making, specifically with an actual flint & steel.
    Food gathering.
    Navigation.
Speaking of navigation. . . I just remembered that on one of my hikes a while back I stumbled on a waypoint marker for an orienteering course near an old cemetery above Brown Hollow. I never did look into it back then, but I just did, and found this info about it. It may be a fun thing to try out if you're going out to the Hoosier Hang. I'm going to post something about it in the Hoosier Hang thread as well for anyone else who may want to give it a try.

I'm in, depending on when it is. Have a lot planned, but this would be a blast!
