    Webbing....

FYI: cheap ratchet straps from the 5.99$ bin from the local "Do-it" center will not support a 230LBS man..well it will support you just long enough to get comfortable and start fall asleep.
So I'm looking for webbing...can it get found locally or is the "net" the best place to get it?

I have used the polyester straps from Harbor Freight on several occasions, with no problems. I bought a roll of webbing on-line, but can't remember where. The Harbor Freight straps, I cut the buckle off and use with the factors stitching. Used mine for several hangs, and I'm 235lbs, right up until I got the roll.....RR

I have yet to hang but planning on using similar straps when my hammock shows up this week. The straps I have are 15ftx1" with a "safe" working load of 400lbs and breaking strength of 1200. I'll be using home made toggles to attach to the hammock webbing.

I hope I have better luck than the OP.

    HF vendors!

Arrowhead Equipment, Jacks R better and others here on HF are honest and dependable sources. They stand behind what they sell. Good folks all around.

    Webbing....

The straps that I HAD, where rated for 500 LBS with a 1500 LBS max Limit, without warning one snapped into, it wasn't the stitching, it wasn't the rigging, the breaking spot was in the middle of the strap...

Odd. Not sure what kind of straps those where but the 1" polyester straps I buy are rated at 3800lbs breaking strength.

Check with local auto shops and pick up Seatbelt webbing. Or Walmart and get a set of Polyester/polypro ratchet straps, make sure to check the load ratings. Certainly sounds like you got a bad strap with a mfg defect. Of course they won't help you out any since you were using the straps in a manner not intended.
