MO HANG 4 - Cuivre River State Park - Trip Report!

    MO HANG 4 - Cuivre River State Park - March 2-3, 2013

We had a fun, snowy, cold weekend at Cuivre River State Park. We had 9 hangers in attendance. Some came in Friday night, some came in Saturday. The majority of the park was closed due to snow-covered roads, but the group found a trail head we could get to. Breaking trail was fun with about 5" of snow on the ground, but we got in several miles and did some exploration anyway. There was a really cool spring near the campsite. Water rushed out of it very quickly into a curvy creek.
We had a brand new hanger along for his first trip....what a trip for the first one! The stove exchange was fun...there were some interesting stoves brought along and traded!
I'd say it was a successful hang!

Post pics if you've got them!

Thanks Disco for planing another great trip. This was definitely the coldest trip I have ever been on. I really enjoyed the company and am looking forward to the next trip.

Hoot and RamenShamen don't worry the desert I was planning on making for everyone did not work out.(Funnel Cakes) maybe on another trip I can try again.

Here is a video of the photos taken while out at camp.

Thom, It was the LONE SPRING TRAIL at CUIVRE RIVER STATE PARK. We had a great time. This was my coldest hang to date for me with temperatures dropping to 10 degrees on Saturday night. If you can make the next MO Hang it is a lot of fun and a good group of people.

    Mo Hang 4

My first winter hang and first hang with hammock forum members and it
was a great experience. It was like learning stuff on the forum except it
was in 3D. Walking through the snow was a bit tiring because I am old and
out of shape. I can fix the out of shape part. I made sure I had everything
I would need for the cold but ended up with at least 15 pounds of stuff I
did not need. A 45 pound pack is just not the way to do it. A bunch of great guys to camp with and I hope to repeat.

One thing I never need to experience again is getting back to my car and opening the hatch and dumping my pack and jacket inside and closing the
hatch. The cold realization that I had just locked my jacket with my phone and car keys inside the car was just stunning and of course embarrassing .

Without the help of the guys it could have been a serious situation but
Digitizer loaned me his phone and Hairbear went to work with a coat hanger
and skills most people don't have and unlocked the door. Just amazing!

Thanks to all and hope to do it again except for that part at the end.

I had a great time at this hang and met some really great people. Like Joker, I wanted to make sure that I had everything I need, and I was a bit heavy on my pack(s).

(I never even used the 125cc chainsaw or the two 5 gal. jerry cans of gasoline (joking)).

The hike in was pretty rough on me. I had on too many layers and made the fool-hearty decision to TRY to keep up with hairbear. Wow, rocket-powered hippies are a sight to see on the trail. That guy can MOVE!!!

It was a great experience for me with a lot of lessons learned. It was really cool seeing a bunch of different technologies out there, and meeting a bunch of great people.

You are all more than welcome this-a-way! Thanks again! Great Hang! Great People!

Great hang as always Disco,im really looking forward to the next hang.
The new hikers to the group was a smashing success, they were an infusion of new things to learn. RamenShamen had a camp stool hammock set up that i planned to sit in, but never got the chance.
Hoot gave away a stove that really got my attention, both very crafty do it yourselfers, who wouldnt want them in their corner?
I knew we would hit it off right away, when after spending a while looking for somewhere to go ,a park person said there was a campsite with concrete pads that we could get to.
It was the common response that we wouldnt camp where we could have to look at concrete.
The snow was a welcome gear test for me,with varied results. the extra sleeping bag worked well, but was overkill for a warm sleeper, resulting in large amounts of frozen ,and unfrozen condensation for me to deal with. I got cold feet during the day ,so when bed time came my toes were burning cold. The answer to this was taking off my hat ,putting it over my toes. This worked ,letting me sleep.
When I awoke the condensation bomb had gone off in my gear, afraid to continue this at 10 degrees I found the hat that warmed my toes to put over my face for something to breath into, getting a great smell of what my shoes are punished by.
I had a great time hanging with old friends ,and cultivating new ones, thanks for the kind words guys it humbles me as I look up to you . Disco, Gideon,Fred thanks for welcoming me in when i first started hanging with you guys.
Joker, Digitizer, and I enjoyed a meal together after the hang allowing us to bond even more .I enjoyed that alot.
I think pyro could walk my legs off if he wanted to,the time with him again was a fun thing.
Campalot when all of us were working with you ,I could see the same passion for it that was in us all at first. You will go far with it im sure.
Joker you inspire me to dream of being on the trail still for a long time to come, you impress me sir.
Until the next hang guys, and gal, hope to see you soon.

    Had a great time guys.

Hairbear - follow you anywhere...which is a good thing because we're likely to end up just about anywhere.
