    I-95 Corridor of Georgia?

    Hey all,

I think I'll be heading home to Florida for a few days in April, and instead of stopping overnight in a hotel, I was thinking of hitting a state park.

For this excursion, I think I'll need a place that I can hang in AND pitch a tent for the kids. A bathhouse would be nice but I can cope with a privy.

Proximity to I-95 is a plus as I have another 6 hours on the road.

    Any recommendations?

    (sheesh, I sound so picky!)

I haven't been to any locations in this area, but you can check out state parks on this map:

It looks like Crooked River might be the closest to I-95.

On a related note, Skidaway Island participates in the first time camper program:

This is for two nights, so may not work out with your trip. The cool thing is they give you gear to use (tent, pads, chairs, etc). Less stuff to pack in the car!

Here is another one that is really close to i-95.

Georgia also has several Core of Engineers parks.

go here and pick Georgia from the list of states: http://www.recreation.gov/campground...tByAgencyID.do

but I'm not familiar with that part of the state. -(

If you go to google maps and search for "campground" then you get a ton of stuff; most of it RV parks but the state parks and whatnot are all in there as well.

There is a KOA campground near the 33 mm in SC.

    Thanks!

Crooked River looks like a good choice mainly due to its location. KOA might work well too but I prefer the price of a state park

Has anyone actually hammocked there? I looked on the forum but wasn't able to find anything conclusive.

I stayed at Crooked River once a while back. Was able to hang while my friends stayed in their tents. None of the park personnel complained. If I remember correctly, they had pretty clean bath houses.

I haven't hammocked Crooked River, but I take my family campering there often to escape the city. I can vouch for the clean restrooms, friendly staff and low-key, relaxing atmosphere. We love it there.
