    Hey guys.

I'd have a hard time keeping up with you all on that distance anyway but I was hoping to offer any logistics support/travel/etc. you might want and at least get few miles a night in on my own.

Looks like I'll be working though. Always happens on the best weekends.

Day 1: Hwy A to Walker Branch. There is a nice site with a fire ring there, and there should be water in the branch.

Day 2: Walker Branch to Johnson Shut Ins for Lunch, to the Scour. The Scour is a cool place to hang...neat view of the valley and the reservoir.

Day 3: The Scour to Taum Sauk Mt.. This will be a long day, but we'll see some cool stuff like Mina Sauk Falls and Devil's Tollgate.

A few notes about the terrain... There is every possible kind of surface along this trail. Mud, gravel, grass, dirt, moss, large boulders that you have to climb up, and several creek crossings (including the Black River). You name it, we'll walk on it. Choose your shoes/boots accordingly.
Water was plentiful...hopefully that will be the case when we go.
There are many areas where you are in the sun for a long time. Sunscreen is suggested.

were you planning on coming into the shut- in parking lot for any reason or should we meet you on the OT at the intersection?

I thought it would be nice for us to come into the shut in parking lot and meet you guys by the visitors center. There are several picnic tables there where we could sit and eat lunch.
With beauty all around you, may you walk.

I think we may need to park at Taum Sauk Mt. instead of the Russell Mt. TH.
Parts of the trail are very rugged, I did 10 miles each day and it was tough. I think we'd be really pushing it to do 36 in 3 days.
If we do Hwy A to Taum Sauk, we're still looking at 30 miles in 3 days, and I think that will be more manageable and enjoyable. It also works out better for where I want to camp each night...otherwise we'd have too many miles on the last day.

There is a nice parking lot at Taum Sauk Mt, so we can meet there Friday morning, then cram into a couple cars and head to the Hwy A TH. We'll still be on track to meet guys at the Shut Ins on Saturday for Lunch. I scouted some great spots to camp each night! Should be fun!
Nice recon disco. That should knock the winter rust off those knees.

I will wait and see who else is joining me at the shut-in parking lot. I don't want to leave anyone hanging, but if I am there early and everyone else is planning on coming later to make lunch, I will hike, in your direction in the morning and come back to get anyone else in the parking lot.

if anyone is planning on coming Saturday morning, just chime in here and let me know what you would like to do.

I am fairly certain I can make this one. What time on Friday is the meet at Taum Sauk Mt Parking lot? I am coming down from St Charles so need to figure driving. I have never been down in this area so it looks like it will be a good one.

We should meet at the Taum Sauk Mt. parking lot at 8am.
We have about a 45min drive from there to the hwy A trailhead, so that will put us on the trail by about 9.
With beauty all around you, may you walk.
