    DIY Silver Ghost Hammock

So, I completed my Ghost Hammock back in July, and I decided to finally post some pictures and a little info. I went right off of the plans Sarge posted for the body, so a big thanks for those. I used 1.1 ordered from Quest Outfitters. The color is labeled as "silver", but I think it has a slight bit of a cool, misty, green/blue to it. I really like it! I deviated a little from his plans by cutting it out all in one piece, instead of attaching a separate piece, to create the footbox.

This thing is small! It is just enough room to sleep in. It is not my most comfortable hammock, but that was not the goal, here. So far, I am using whoopies, and not UCR's, like Sarge did. I added a non-structural and removable Zing-It ridgeline. I also constructed a cuben ridgline pouch (not pictured), that I use along with it. It got me through a 6 night/7 day trip through the Smoky Mountain National Park section of the AT, in July. It held up wonderfully, and I really appreciated the light carry weight and small pack size. Final weight with woopies and ridgeline: 6.4oz(181g). I do not use a stuff sack for this one, just wrap it up.

It is not the most beautiful stitching, but it gets the job done.

Sounds awesome... UCRs are cool I just made a set and am laying on them now... Easy to adjust, no more difficult to make... Mine have 7' of adjustable length and is less than 10' of amsteel... So keep that in mind... It's not a huge savings and I made them just to play with another suspension idea but they are lighter...

That sure looks like a tight fit but oh so light!

Nice work! The ghost hammock is on my list of things to do before summer comes around. Congrats on having a successful trip field-testing it!

Here's what it looks like with me in it. It is not as roomy, but still plenty comfortable. Also in this pic, my DIY cuben ridgeline pouch.

Thanks for posting this. I just ordered fabric and dyneema to make my own. Hopefully gets here this week. How did you like it with the triangle not cut out? How did you finish the edges of the triangle?

I really like how it turned out. It's nice not having another seam to worry about. I folded a half inch all around the edges of the hammock, and did a stitch to keep the edges from fraying. That reinforced the end of the attachment stitch. I had also cut and stitched on a small strip of the nylon to cover over the triangle's attachment point. This helps reinforce it a little, and gives it a nicer finished off look. You can see that in the photo.

That image is from outside the footbox. I hope that made sense. The point where the hammock edge stitch crosses over the attachment stitching is not real pretty, but neither are my skills with the thread injector.

Just made mine tonight. How long did you make yours? I'm 6' so opted for an unhemmed 110"x50" with the straight edge of the foot box being 35"x12" tall. It fits perfectly, any narrower and it would be too small. What is your ridgeline length? I'm thinking I should just make an adjustable one. Pics soon.

Sweet. Enjoy it this summer! You may want to make a HUG to go with it.
