Hi All,
I'm from Lancaster, PA and new to the ways of the hammock. I got to try out a buddy's hammock on a camping trip in the summer of 2010, and I frequently remember how comfortable it was. Fast forward to today, I haven't been on any trips since then because of FT work plus FT school to become a CNC machinist. Graduation is now about two months away, so now is the time to make gear for a long awaited vacation in the woods. I got the hammock fire rekindled by some of the folks over at bushcraftusa, and decided I not only wanted to try it out, but wanted to make my own hammock, bugnet and tarp. I have some thread injector experience already, mostly costume garment structure and sewing stuff for around the house. I cannot remember not knowing how to hand sew, so I've been at it for a while.
Long story short, I used a 40% off coupon at Joann's for ripstop and have my double 1.9 with sleeping mat sleeve all sewn up and now am waiting on some amsteel, webbing and aluminum arrow segments for suspension from DIY gear supply. I also just found 37 yards of uncoated marpat digital camo 1.1 at magnafabrics.com for $1.25/yd which will become my tarp among other things. I'm going to mix up a bucket of silicon dip to make my own silnylon out of it. So, you probably can tell I'm here for DIY help, and have already made much use of the DIY threads here. I hope to contribute more in the future.
Thanks,
scroungetech
