I pulled apart a small piece of scrap Amsteel into individual strands and started thinking... I wonder if anyone has tried using individual strands of it as guy lines or any other use. Just curious if any if you have done it or thought about it

I think the issue would be the fibres of each strand would separate when not under load.

Not sure if it's worth the time. Guy line material is pretty cheap...
Yeah the fibres sperate very easily once the strands have been pulled apart. I done it, thinking for some reason it would be ok as a cinch cord on a stuff sack until my smaller line came in the post... it wasn't.
You could maybe braid the fibres into another line but I have no idea how well that would work and imo isn't worth the effort.
Not to mention the fact I'd rather have my guy lines break than my tarp rip in bad weather. Much easier to fix out in the field and far less expensive.
