Attach whoopies directly to webbing?

@Jtupnsmoke - You are correct. That connection between the whoopie and the webbing is a no go.

@old4hats - I'm going to use your idea but modify it just a bit. Instead of adding the dutch clips, I'm going to keep the biner where it is and add some soft shackles to connect the whoopie to the webbing.

@Willjack1967 - Great idea on the whipping/thimble. I think I'm going to do that as well.

I put the whoopie directly on the strap and have had no issues. It's simple and no extra weight

that's how I had it originally but I didn't like how cinched down the strap became on the whoopie sling. It was pretty annoying to get the webbing un-cinched from the adjustable end of the whoopie.

So here's the fix:

I don't know how much the soft shackle weighs (about 2 feet of Amsteel), but it can't be much. Now I can quickly and easily disconnect the entire suspension. That could be really helpful if I ever wanted/needed to setup using a marlin spike hitch or something similar.

If you wanted to go lighter you could bring the other end of your strap to the connection and put it in the soft shackle. Then you could lose the biner. I used that setup until I got my whoopie hooks.

Why wouldn't you loop the strap though itself and biner the whoopie to the open loop end?

I don't loop the strap on itself because I keep everything connected from the hammock all the way to the webbing and carabiner. That way all I have to do is pull the biner out of the stuff sack (which is sitting right on top), loop it around the tree and clip it back to the webbing, adjust my whoopies and I'm done.

@Mugen - Your method would work just as well, and eliminate the soft shackle. It's one extra step, but still incredibly easy to setup. Maybe I'll try that.

@Jtupnsmoke - I REALLY LIKE that idea.

I always leave the whoopie attached to the strap. I disconnect from the whoopie hook at the other end... Simple, light and fast

I liked it pretty well. The only negative to it is that you lose a little bit of length in your strap, but not too much. And if you have too much strap you can always loop it around the tree again to take up the slack.

Hook both ends of webbing in the biner and the whoppie end in the biner. That's seems like the simplest to me or am I missing something?

you've prob figured it out by now but having the adjustable end of your whoopie larksheaded onto your strap is gonna make it a pain to adjust. If you are dead set on keeping it attatched you might be better off reversing the whoopie and put maybe a continuous loop on your hammock that the adjustable end of your whoopie is attatched to.
