WBBB XLC 1.7 DL Weight and First Impression

Got my WBBB XLC 1.7 DL this week and had a chance to weigh some of the components tonight. Total weight for the entire package including the stock straps (no carabiners) as received was 45.9 oz which matches up nicely to the 46.oz listed in the site. I was curious as to the weight of the various parts and here they are broken down:

    Net Cover - 6.3 oz.
    Ripstop Cover - 8.5 oz
    Stuff Sack - 0.9 oz.
Tie Outs & Mitten Hooks - 1.1 oz.

I swapped out the standard webbing suspension for the suspension I prefer which is Dutch Whoopie Hooks with 6' 7/64 Amsteel Whoopie Slings and 6' Tree Straps with Ti Dutch Clips

Using that suspension I plan to take this hammock out in one of three configurations and here is the weight of the hammock, suspension, and stuff sack in each:

    w/ Solid Cover - 39.0 oz.
    w / Bug Netting - 36.9 oz.
Minimalist No Cover - 30.6 oz

Like the fact that this gives you a few options based on the season, temperature, expected insect conditions or if I'm planning on minimizing weight.

First impression on the hammock is that the craftsmanship is excellent and the fit and finish are flawless. I'll be interested in seeing how the zipper holds up on this - it's a bit tricky interchanging the covers as you work around the part of the zipper on either end where it changes direction and sort of doubles back on itself. No problems changing out the stock straps pretty much the same procedure as the WBBB but there is an additional small loop of webbing that you need to attach to the continuous loop where the toggle on each end of the cover is attached to the suspension.

No chance to hang yet so I can't comment on comfort, but I plan on doing a section of the AT here in PA next weekend so I'll update after that trip and post some pictures.

I ordered the same thing, waiting.

Would you measure it end to end for me? Trying to have snake skins ready when it arrives and need over all length.
Also would like a girth measurement please. Can it fit through a 6” ring or however you get about it.

    It woulds sure help, thanks

Had a chance to take the new XLC for a spin. Have to say it's very comfortable - probably the best night's sleep I've had hiking. The weather was cold - snowed here in PA this weekend - so I used the solid cover. I initially thought it might be a bit claustrophobic but when you pull the shelf and the other side out there is a lot of room inside. I forgot my thermometer but it definitely was a bit warmer inside the hammock after a while, I'd guess at least 10*.

No calf pressure at all as advertised. I did hang the head end lower and try to move towards the top end of the hammock as Brandon advised.

I am getting the hang of taking the top on and off and noticed it's easier to change direction at the ends if you grasp the zipper right below the pull with your thumb and index finger to give it a little tension which flattens it out a bit. I still am going to be very gentle with the zipper and try to avoid stressing it.

Also noticed that I may need to lengthen the main suspension shock cord on my underquilt (HG Phoenix) it worked but probably a bit tighter overall than I would have liked about another 4-6" would be perfect.

No chance to try out the mesh cover yet....

Really pleased so far with this new design - well played Brandon!
    see you on the trail,
