    diy bridge spreader bar question

I bought some bamboo poles that I am going to make into walking sticks/ spreader bars. I need the sticks about 50" but only need 36" spreader bars. I was thinking about making detachable handles but was wondering what the real downside would be to have the bars stick out of my hammock on each side about 7" other then the tarp. And if it did push on the tarp wouldn't that act almost like side pull outs?

If the ends were rounded off, then you may be fine. A good number of people though have found that the ends of the spreader bars had put holes in their tarps if they came in contact with each other.

you would put some serious holes in your tarp getting in and out, although ive been thinking lately about my bamboo walking stick as a spreader bar . My mind keeps seeing threaded inserts like the ones on custom pool cues, the small end come off leavin a shorter ,more useable section that fits the spread of your liking.

Yeah.....asking for a hole punched in the tarp....eventually. A bridge really tips up at the ends on hammock entry.
More than that though would be the sound of the spreader bar constantly rubbing the tarp.
    That is my 4¢.

What if you dipped the ends in that rubber coating you can use on tool? That would lessen the wear on the tarp.

The other thing is...........with extra wide spreader bars, you cant lower your tarp/pitch it steeper in bad weather.
FYI: If you want to know what type a certain bear is, sneak up behind it and kick it. Then,
run like crazy and climb up a tree. If the bear climbs the tree and eats you, it's a black
bear. If the bear just pushes the tree over and eats you, it's a grizzly bear : )

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me, either, just leave me alone.
