This discrepancy probably goes back to a "sailor's yard".Well that is disappointing, wonder why they are advertising it as 3/4 oz.
That was the plan, though it seems that it may not be as light weight as advertised.
It was the old way of measuring sail cloth when the looms were only 28" wide. The weight was for a piece 36"x28" or a running yard at the time.

That is a possibility. I'll order a yard of the the stuff that kitebuilder.com has and see what I end up with. At worse I'm out about $15 after shipping.

I was just Googling for something like that. I'm on the hunt for a new hammock to make. I want a ripstop fabric that is 0.6oz or less per sq yard. I want it to be uncoated and 60" wide.
I plan on making my first double layer hammock and want it to be roughly the same weight as mine now which uses uncoated 1.1oz.
If we can get enough interest in something that is basically uncoated M50 (~0.5oz/yd) maybe we could rig up a group buy? I'd be down for 12 yards so I could make two hammocks. I don't need it downproof, just strong enough in a DL to make a 9'x4.5'(or 5') hammock.

If you weigh around 150 then this mysterious fabric might be your lowest. I personally would recommend something like a BIAS WWM if you are less than 225. I have a bias and float around 180.I want to start on my first diy hammock...
