I went over to a strap suspension with my Hennessy Explorer Ultralight. I simply used the Hennessy lashing to attach to the fixed loop on the strap and cut off the excess line that I didn't need. It's held up for probably 50 nights with my ~200 lbs in it, no problem.

    Hope it helps!

You must replace the ropes. Go to a hammock hang and someone will sure help you with closed loops or whoopies. 1" straps with elephant trunk clips is a good way to go. Many systems better than the rope knots and so many people who can help you make it happen.

I took my HH Explorer and just did a Figure 8 on a bite and hooked my SMC descender rings to the bite via Black Diamond Neutrino Carabiner or add them into the actual Figure 8 knot. Then I just picked up some 1" webbing and sewed a bite on one end via some bar-tacks and suspension complete. You can just let the excess cordage hang or zip tie it up without having to cut it. This way you still retain the original suspension without compromising it in case you want to revert back or sell at a later date.

I took robinsmv's advice and had my wife tie two figure eights from the Hennessey lines to my biner which I then attached to my Atlas straps and it worked pefectly!!!!! I had my Deep Jungle up in 2 minutes and will sleep in the backyard tonight!!!

There are long dangling lines, but I will leave them for a time. I don't want to do anything which can't be undone!

I use a version of this suspension on my hyperlite:
    http://www.outdoortrailgear.com/featured/whoopie-hooks/

Check out the picture, describes it better then anything I could say. I love it, also if you switch to continuous loops, they you have a loop that you can use to try all kinds of suspension systems, such as cinch buckles, woopies and more.

I switched out the stock ropes for some continuous loops, it is simple and reversible. I just cut the zip ties, pulled back the sleeve and untied the rope. Zip ties are cheap and you can always re-tie the stock rope and put more zips in.
    The video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=t6QKLB0o13g

Shows you how to make the switch (method is the same for loops), it is really simple and keeps the stock rope intact. Only thing you loose is a zip tie, and that is replace-able.

Heres my idea - replace the ropes with whoopies. Run the loop of the Whoopie through the tree strap loops. Put your trekking pole through the Whoopie loop, right under the handle, and pull it taught against the tree strap loop. No extra clips to tote, use what you have already. And the Whoopie should still be adjustable...

Haven't tried it yet on my Hennessy.

    the BOWLINE

i realize my suggestion wil add weight to your kit but it wont fail you, once you learn the knot

in the original suspension lines, tie a BOWLINE LOOP, close to the body of the hammock

the BOWLINE(BOW-LINE) is a knot sailors use to secure their BOW to a post, which can be easily un-tied even after it gets wet & has great stress applied to it

take a ratcheting motorcycle tie down w/ hooks that have a 180º hook on each end(some of the cheaper units have a hook that has less than a 180º turn & they will fail you, in this situation)

hook into the LOOP w/ 1 end of the tie down & the tree huggers w/ the other end

simply use the ratchets to adjust the tension/angle of your hammock

for the purpose of this reply, use tie downs w/ hooks that look like these

    http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...set-90984.html

    not like these

    http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...own-47764.html

notice the difference in the hooks, themselves

the more open hooks will slip & fail you, under these conditions

purchase tie downs that will hold your weight, safely

i saw this system in use 2 weeks ago on a DELUXE SAFARI w/ a BIG OLE BOY in it

it worked well & was easily erected & taken down

How about Dutch Clips and figure 9 biners, I think you can use a Prussic hitch to set a movable loop?

i only commented on what i actually saw, in person/in service

I HEARD/THEY SAY there are some really cool/light weight/compact/inexpensive/innovative alternatives, out there

& yes, i've seen the pics & videos

i just haven't seen them in service, w/ my own eyes, yet

& i prefer to speak only of that which i have personally witnessed

@ 260#+, i've been in too many wrecks w/ stuff/gear that is purported to be substantially configured...
