Exclamation Used Down Sleeping Bags - What to look for?

I have a line on 2 used Youth Sierra Designs down sleeping bags. I've been told they're 30 degree bags and have hung most of the time. They're in the neighborhood of 6 years old but haven't been used much and are like new.

I'm thinking topquilt and possibly underquilt for the girl child, but want to be sure they're in good USABLE shape as is.

What do I need to look for when checking them out this weekend?

Stains... tears... feathers flying about...mildew spots...

Much more than that? It's hard to hurt down other than by washing improperly (I am told).

Plan on getting some downwash and washing them... I washed an old REI bag I got for $40 and it was ultra-fluffy afterwards!

Basically the same stuff I do anytime I buy something used. I just didn't know if there was anything specific to down, other than stray feathers, I needed to watch for.

    Downwash? Who knew?!

    EDIT:
As down gets older does it loose some of its loft or does it pretty much last forever if taken care of properly?

I don't know nuthin' 'bout no feathers, Ms. Scarlet!

Re: Used Down Sleeping Bags - What to look for?

I hear it eventually breaks down, but my bag is 20+ years old... no issues!

Stray feathers are not a problem, major leaks are... they all leak a cluster from Time to time, just to leave evidence of they're having been there.
