    Wet Weather Preparation

OK, so I have so far assembled a WBBB Dbl layer 1.1, a camo Superfly, with a WB under quilt ordered. I have the adjustable webbing suspension, and have several questions concerning protecting the hammock from rain: Does the webbing actually SOAK up water? Would silicon waterproofing spray do any good to prevent this? Or would the spray simply add more weight and not really accomplish anything? AND, is there any particular spot on this suspension where a drip line would accomplish the most good? I have read that water can run right down your suspension and wet your hammock no matter how big your tarp and it seems to me there would already be tried and true methods of preventing this, if you fine folks could share with me. I would appreciate it very much, thank you!

The buckles on the WB strap suspension will usually stop water but you can also tie a cotton string on the suspension that will act as a drip line, the water will run down the strap then down the string onto the ground.

I think the common thought is get the buckles under your tarp and they will shed the water.

Drip line needs to be under your tarp... A piece of hardware like the buckles should do the same thing... But a few inches of string on both sides of that buckle just to make sure...

Just leave the tag ends of you webbing hanging down. Built in drip line.

I have a question on this myself, this last weekend our Boy Scout Troop had an outing it rained hard. I had my buckles under the tarp and drip set up on the tag of my straps. However my straps just soaked up the rain like a sponge. I made it almost all night without any water in my hammock until that last hour of the night.

I am using Dutch stainless Steel buckles on my straps, and I know Dutch won't let my hammock get wet. But! Still using drip lines on amsteel below buckles of my straps to RR.

A long, thin strip of Shamwow makes a really good drip line. Just make sure it is under your tarp.
