    Earthquake in a Hammock

I just went to bed last night and 5 mins later I'm swinging side to side. I was about 5 miles from the epicenter of a 4.5 here in N. California. Two mins later another one of 3.9 hits.

For me, it's a small one that gets your attention, but not enough for me to get out of my hammock. I've been in 2 really big ones, with the last one being the 1994 Northridge earthquake in S. California. I broke all types of speed records with that one.

As a native son of the golden west, I kinda like earthquakes. 1989 Loma Prieta quake I was about 5 miles from the epicenter. Could see the earth rolling in waves across the soccer pitch, so that was pretty interesting. Kind of view 'em as massages from the ground up. Never been in a hammock during one, but been flying many times during them, and never then felt a thing!

I'm sure if I was already asleep, I wouldn't have woken up at all. Well unless the bolts broke loose from the walls.

The area I live in is hit by earth quakes all the time. Due to the Geysers which supply all the electric from here to Oregon. The lava bed is only 5 miles from the surface. They pour grey water down into the lava, and steams pours out and turns these giant turbines. When a earthquake hits and if we've had a big rain season, the mountain are full of water, steam comes flying out of the cracks.

Here's a picture from my back yard of about 10 going off. I have one where there's about 20, but I can't find it right at the moment.

    Earthquake in a Hammock

Yikes! Looks like you're sitting on a time bomb!

Being from the East, I never experienced an earthquake until last fall in Maine of all places! About a 4.0 - pretty freaky!

that is a cool photo, would be shooting a bearing to them.. and go taking a peek & poke at them.

Someday we shall get the big one, Equal to japan's. If I am in a hammock, Might end up as a sling shot.

Ya, we get 3.0's & up here almost on a weekly basis. 4.5 will get your attention and being only 5 miles from the center can really start to get your attention. It also depends on where you're located when it hits. I was in a 5.0 in Newport Beach which threw me out of my seat. The Northridge 6.7 had me bouncing off the walls as I was making a run for it. I had an apartment above my self defense school. I had to run threw my apartment, threw my office, down the stairs, threw the school, threw another office and out into the parking lot. There is not a Cheetah on this planet which could have caught me at that moment. And that was after waking up from a dead sleep.
