How long before we see a hammock tent?

I'm new to all of this, but the more pics I look at of winter hangs the more the tarps start looking like tents. When you get a big enough tarp and close the doors then pack snow in around it, well you have a tent with no floor. Is anyone doing a basic tent with top corner opening for suspension?

There are several currently being offered, we have the Winter Dream, Warbonnet has the Super Fly, and Wilderness Logic makes the Old Man Winter, AHE has the Hard Rock...

You can find some pics of the Winter Dream here...

The difference between a tarp vs a tent type cover is the weather and seasonal set up options of a tarp. What you suggest would be limited to a fixed structure.

The winter dream, superfly, Old Man winter and the rest are actually tarps, not tent's. They can function very much like a tent, but as such they are not. There have been a few made, one was by JRB but sadly is not made anymore, but there is one that is made, called the SmokeHouse. It's made by a HF member who's name coincidentally is SmokeHouse, here is a link to one of his designs

If you do a search here on HF for SmokeHouse, or hot tent you will find a bunch of posts on this.

Also there are a few members whom have one of his tarps and I had the pleasure of seeing one in person and they are truly a work of art!

The concept behind the Clark Jungle Hammock is that the tent is the hammock. The tarp it just for extra protection.

    ... or the tent's rainfly.

Plus, a tent sort of implies an enclosure. Even what your thinking of is always mentioned as a tarp tent, or something that describes that it's just a tarp, no floor, no bug net.

Taking away all else, the main difference between tents and tarps used for hammocks is the ability for tarps to change to your liking where tents cannot.

A single winter style tarp can have doors open or closed either side or both, go to porch mode with 1 side up and open, go to roof mode with both sides open, close it all up with the walls you mentioned for storm mode.

It's all up to you and your likes. Also you can use all modes in 1 trip depending on current conditions. Try that with a tent.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

Re: How long before we see a hammock tent?

If you had a foot print made for say the superfly it wuld be very much like my shangri la2 tent...but would there be any major advantage to having the bottom? I guess for some they would like to sit themselves or set their stuff on the ground without it being in the dirt or snow. Would be a good $100 upsell for warbonnet if they made it I guess.
