While I was killing some time at Walmart I stumbled across an Outdoor Products Packable Day Pack. The pack cost $6.99 (listed at almost $20.00 on their website, so buy it in store) and looked interesting so i picked it up. It weighs just under 5 oz. (a little heavy, but not bad at all for the price) and is able to be reverse packed into a small ball (a little smaller than a baseball). My intended use was throw it in my pack as a day pack when I set up a base camp. It is capable of carrying 2 meals, water, and my first aid kit(I always get stuck as the first aid guy). After some careful thought though, i realized i can use this bag to replace my stuff sack on my sleeping bag, so after setting up base camp I will have a day pack and have saved a little weight. I havent seen anyone do this idea yet, but I would not be suprised if it has already been done (I apologize if I have stepped on anyone's creative toes). Another thought was just to sew some light straps on a stuff or compression sack to achieve the same thing and probably be a little lighter (not that 5 oz is too outrageous). Here is a link to the bag i got if anyone wants to take a look.
