Overnighter in Harriman State Park, NY

Due to life just being what it is sometimes I wound up hiking in Harriman State Park, just 20 miles north of NYC. All things considered I will be back again (but during the week next time). Here's a few pics because if there ain't pictures it never happened:

    View from Torne View

NYC skyline 20 miles in the distance

    Campsite below Stone Memorial shelter

    Pine Meadow Lake

    Stony Brook

Very nice. I hope to be hiking the AT through there to Bear Mtn. bridge next weekend.

Ditto.. I'm heading out there this weekend with a group of about 10 people. Meeting at the BM parking lot, heading out 77 / 1779 to long path south to menomine, past silvermine to Wm. Brien for the night. Going back probably AT/RD, S-BM. Who knows our paths may cross.

Nice! I hiked up Breakneck and then over to Taurus across the river and up the Highlands from there last weekend and never saw so many hikers! I think a lot of leaf peepers out this time of year, and for good reason.

I was actually shocked at the steady stream of people I saw on that Saturday. I guess I shouldn't have been. Lesson learned - I'm going during the week next time. Also, I really liked that SW corner of the park. I want to go back and hike the Suffern-Bear Mt trail end to end sometime next year maybe.

Maybe I'll join you. Harriman has been pretty dried up from lack of rain for a while as well. We are going to fill up at silver mine lake rather than risk a dry spring, even though they are calling for rain tomorrow.
