Well, it's been a while fellow hangers, and I must say, my life has been awash with change for quite a while now. Looks like we've got our health issues behind us for the moment, new job at work requiring quite a bit of travel, and 4 new grand babies.
I'm taking a week in July to do the Maryland part of the AT, and generally looking forward to getting back out in the trees again.
With all that said, I've been busy working on my gear, and have whittled my gear list down to 7 lbs base using a GT Ultralight, ponco tarp, and a CC foam pad, however, I've since talked myself into the Hennessy ULBA, my baby orca clone, and the stock HH tarp, with a separate sit pad, dragging my base load up to 8 lbs. The poncho tarp will make a great undercover/garglington insulator if a freak cold snap should roll through (unlikely). I think the added covienence and comfort is worth 1 lb.
I've gone to fixed three foot amsteel lines on each end of the HH with fixed loops, and 8 ft 1 in straps with toggles for a simplified suspension. I cut down the hammock tieout shock cords and added orange spectra hi-vis lines.
Has anyone used lash it as a ridge line? Or should I be going to amsteel for the ridge?
