    Taking the risky path

Today the results that ive been looking for developed right before my eyes.
After swearing that I would never sleep in a gathered end hammock again, because of the calf bite problem,Risk posted a picture of his d i y hammock that got me drooling over the weight of his little nest.
Then catavarie posted a thread about the shorter hammocks being right for him, just about the time I recieved a package from d i y gear.
The short of it is after sewing all night Iam now a proud owner of a 1.9 single that fits me like a glove,it only has a 7 foot 5 inch ridge line. Who would have thought you could get all of me in such a little space ,with so much comfort.
A big thanks to Risk and catavarie for the posts, keep up the good work guys, you saved me alot of pack weight.
    Thanks

Glad to hear that you found yourself a comfortable place in a smaller sized package.

The next step is to get a shorter tarp to fit underneath for even more weight savings. You'd be amazed at how many more hanging locations open up when you down size.

Ill do that ,funny thing is i can touch the end of the hammock with an outstreyched toe ,and can reach the head end with my arm full extended .
Just as catavarie said the ridge runs under my left ankle then passes under my right knee unnoticed.
The whole thing weighs in at 11.7 oz,and is 1.9 tough.

    Here's mine.

Here's the one I made out of 1.0. Made with home made whoopies and straps as well. I'm in the process of making Sgt Rock's UCRs. Have all the stuff, just haven't actually done it yet. It supported both my wife and I laying in it for a post lunch siesta on a warm spring day after a 12 mile hike. Combined weight of just shy 300#

Here are some plans I drew. I'm 6'00" and 165# for reference.

That is good info! What is the actual hammock length? Because if it is less than 8.5 ft, and you also happened to be a PeaPod user, you would be in for an additional pleasant surprise. For example, my bud used a PeaPod on a Claytor Expedition, which is listed as 8 ft long. The Pod would easily reach all the way past the ends, cinching down to a tight closure just past the strap channel. Other than whatever you allow through the adjustable face area vent hole, there is not going to be any draft problems with that set up!

That looks like the one I made from 1.1 woodland camo,I found that the 1.1 gave a little too much creating more calf pressure. The 1.9 was stiffer ,felt just right, kind of sounds like goldie locks and the three bears lol.
The other one i made was an experimental 12 footer that i kept shortening to try to find the best length for me.
At the end the perfect one was 4 8 inches wide by 8 foot 8 inches long.
