    How "tight" should UQ be?

I am switching from my old closed cell pad to my new HG UQ...I am assuming that it should be tight enough to the bottom of the hammock to keep warm air in, but not so tight to compress the down. Does this sound correct? I see lots of pics here with some UQ's drooping very low, while others look banjo sting tight. Thanks for any and all feedback. Bones

    That's it exactly.

tight enough to the bottom of the hammock to keep warm air in (keep drafts out), but not so tight to compress the down.

Yep you got it. However with HG UQ's you do not have to worry about compressing the down because the UQ is differentially.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.

Thanks. I'm nervous about getting cold butt syndrome... perhaps a few nights in the backyard before my trip will be in order.

exactly. Sometimes you REALLY have to CRANK it up to close those gaps up. Don't be afraid to do this. You especially have to do this on the winter incubator since it's so heavy, comparably, but I was worried about over tightening it and was told to just do it.

Easiest way to dial it in is to lay in it or have someone lay in it and adjust the UQ suspension until "theirs" complete contact.

Also pay attention to the top sides. You don't want gaps there that let the cold air come in. I believe their new suspension system allows for those adjustments.
I have an older Underground that I did a little top sides modification with and have better warmth using triangle thingies to hang it off. Warm & toasty now.
+1 for the back yard shake down. I have several nights into my set up getting it just right.

Re: How "tight" should UQ be?

Every time I have seen them used the underquilt picks up the empty hammock a little big until occupied... So it seems like it needs to be pretty tight...

I find it helps a tremendous amount to have a buddy help dial in your UQ while you are laying in it.
