    Nite Ize figure 9?

Does anyone use the 1/8" to 3/8" figure 9 biner with the stock suspension line. Does the biner shred the woven outer layer of the stock line? I have a couple laying around and was thinking they would make centering much quicker.

Don't know about the shredding potential but this will work. A couple prussic loops with or without some Dutch bling might be much lighter though.

EDIT: I'm talking Tarps here - not hammock suspensions (thanks Bubba!)

My suggestion is to go with dutch's products; however, I have and do use the nite ize fig. 9. And to be more specific to your question, no they do not shred the line.
I like big hammocks - I cannot like.

Are you thinking about using them for your hammock suspension? I don't think the figure 9's are strong enough for that.

Use one for my tarp ridgeline binered to a prussik. Use braided mason line and the outter wear on the line is extremely minimal as much as it's been set up. And that's on mason line.

I wholeheartedly agree - they're not strong enough to support your weight. Be prepared for a rapid downward accelaration and an abrupt decelaration.

    Thanks for the replies!
I think that I'll use them for my tarp and not the hammock. I weigh in at about 225lb and don't want to end up on the ground.

I'll just use the stock slings, line and figure 8 knot. It's worked fine so far.

It wouldn't be a large investment to swap out the stock line for a more easily adjusted suspension such as whoopie slings. You can stil utilize the stock straps. A set costs maybe $14 (less if you bought some amsteel and made them yourself) and would allow you to centre your hammock very quickly and easily. There's info on making such a change on a HH in the suspension forum.

I've watched the sticky vid, and I'm considering the whoopie conv. But webbing and descender rings look like something to think about as well.

Before its all over, I'll most likely try both. I have a real sickness with tinkering and DIY.

I have been using these for almost a year now... no problems with my expedition... makes setup very quick! As far as weight, they are "rated" for 150lbs each.
