@ the Thomas knob shelter, NO!!! Even with a "Local's" phone there was no signal even in the loft of the shelter. There is a small spot (about the size of a basketball) at the Wise shelter, but it moves from year to year, usually somewhere in the front of the shelter, where I have gotten enough signal to text, ie one bar.

I haven't really tried anywhere else up there.

    I got Cinti Bell phone.

Yeah, I could get good Verizon reception at Thomas Knob a couple of years ago, but the people with me had no AT&T and no Sprint coverage.

Verizon seems to be the one to have in that neck of the woods. I have ATT and get great coverage here in MS/TN(west), but I have been in some woods over that way and had zero.

The people I was with were locals, had Verizon, said reception was great sometimes & bad to nonexistant othertimes.
So I,d not count on coverage,,,,, but be happy IF it worked when there.

I have at&t and there was no reception and appearently there is none for Damascus either so they may lack a tower.

I am ATT also and had no coverage in Grayson Highlands when I was there last year.
    Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

I had very good Verizon coverage in the campground, but poor in other parts of the park.
