    What snaps are y'all using?

I just finished my TQ and used plastic snaps that I picked up at my somewhat local fabric shop - they don't hold worth a penny. Every time I nudge one with a toe it pops open...

I used some heavy duty metal snaps. I'd like to say they were 5/8ths?

    Yep...this is what I used http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/...er-kit-733006/

DIY Top Quilt - How is Your Foot Box Built

I made one with snaps and promptly removed them after one trip. They never held and even when they were snapped, air could freely move through the spaces in between the snaps.

Thanks, I'm going to have to go shopping again for the biggest snaps I can find. I obviously was thinking gram weenie when I bought the little things that don't work. At 19 oz for a 72 x 50" TQ I guess I can manage another ounce or so

I'm glad I went with a Sewn Footbox. Very happy with the finished product.
It is very warm and when I shift my feet around in the footbox, the heat doesn't escape like I have heard in snapped, velcro, or drawstring footboxes. I have no plans to ever use this as an UQ so there was no need for the open footbox in mine. If my feet ever get too hot I can just pull them out of the foot box and lay the TQ on top like a blanket. No biggie. Guess its a preference thing.

My DIY TQ is a little unconventional. I put a button on one side with a piece of looped paracord on the other. I thought I had an up-close pic of it, but I guess not. Here's the thread though. https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=68060

    Snaps

I used the cheap Dritz snaps that are like $2 for 7 of them. They are silver and the back sides of the snaps are a ring with the center exposed. You can find them at JoAnns and Wal-Mart. They hold like a champ.

I originally went with a drawstring closure but was frustrated with the long piece of cord dangling when it was cinched. I switched to simply gathering the foot end and using a small loop of shock cord to keep it closed and it works great.

I bought plastic KAM snaps on eBay which work quite well. They require a special pair of pliers to install them. The investment was worth it for me because I will be using the snaps on the doors of my DIY tarp as well.
