    Just ordered a Speer

Hi, I just ordered a Speer 3 with the winter tarp.It gets chilly here in the NorthEast so I went with the bigger rain fly. I like the idea of more rain fly coverage. Still not sure on the Peapod vr the Snug. Kind of like the Peapod though. Now all I have to do is SAVE up for it!

Compare the Snugfit and the PeaPod III. They are basically the same price, but the Snugfit is 1/2 pound lighter. I have also read that the PeaPod is unable to provide any real insulative value on the top side because there is a big air gap between the occupant and the insulation of the PeaPod. I hope someone who has experience with the PeaPod will chime in to clarify if this is the case.

With a PeaPod, if you have a relatively narrow hammock you will indeed get quite a bit of top insulation from the pod. I used one at the Mt. Rogers winter hang at 11ºF with a Speer TopBlanket and a 1/2 length 1/4" CCF pad and was extremely warm.

See here for a thorough review of the PeaPod.

Y'all made excellent choices in picking Speer hammocks and tarps. My girlfriend Dancer just bought a SWT and it was delivered to my place today. Great gear!

I finally stepped-up and ordered a Speer IIIA and SWT. Been a long time waiting to pull that trigger and I'll once again be sitting out by the mailbox giving the letter carrier the evil-eye until he/she/shim shows up with a box with my name on it.
