    SNP hike this summer

I would like to one day do a thru hike but it is goal for another phase of my life. I am hoping to start a tradition this summer of doing a long hike to eventually section the AT. The most I have ever done is a 34 mile stretch from Ashby Gap to Harper's Ferry (GREAT HIKE!). Well this summer on July 1 I am going back to Ashby Gap and am heading in the other direction, south through the Shennadoah National Park for a 120 mile jaunt. I am really excited about this trip. I have some local (ground dwellers) friends that I hike with regularly who are going with me for 50 miles. I am ready to do the second half myself. That said if anyone is interested in joining me for a 10 day journey this summer, give me a holler!

I might be able to do it. I want to do SNP again. I did 50 miles last year (100 planned). I learned alot about blisters on that trip , but I did get a Blackberry shake
Beer won't solve problems, but then again, neither will milk !

EC! I know it! I grew up in Greenville and spend some time one summer in Hertford, Bertie and Northhampton County. My Scout troop got banned from Merchant's Mill Pond State park thanks to a couple of bozos!

The best thing about EC is that it is only 4 hrs to SNP. I get bored with all this flat land. I kept threatening to move to Greensboro when my son was at UNCG. Seriously though, I am going to try to make this hike. I really have to get on my honey-do list and rack up some domestic points.

I hope you have a great time when you go. SNP is a lot of fun!

I'm going from the southend of SNP to the north end in 2 weeks. Very nervous but excited

I have GPS data for all of the shelters/huts along the way if you're interested. Each hut is about 10-15 miles apart.

From previous experience, the first 20 miles of the northern end (front royal) of SNP headed southbound (towards Elkwallow) is a level of pain and suffering I had never experienced before. Up and down and up and down and up and down.... you get the idea. Or maybe I'm just a weanie. Get on that stair-steppin' machine pronto!

Myself and three of my newly converted hanger friends will be doing a 50 mile stretch of the Northern half of SNP in May. It is my understanding we can hang almost anywhere assuming we are following the campsite rules. I was curious if any others had issues finding suitable places to hang not co-located with shelters.

Finding a quality hang spot without neighbors is NOT difficult.
