This weekend we were doing some trail maintenance and demolishing a boardwalk that was damaged through several storms. We stopped early yesterday due to the lightning and headed back to camp. The USFS guys had tents and the first thing I noticed was how nasty and dirty they looked from all the mud and debris that had splashed up on them during the heavy rain.

We were all soaked to the bone and one of the poor guys ended up sleeping in his FS truck because his bedding and tent were useless. It was still drizzling as I set my tarp up and then put my hammock/accessories up while keeping everything dry.

This morning I woke up feeling well-rested and very satisfied in the knowledge that I didn't have to deal with the mess the others would have packing their gear away. It was a great reminder, and hopefully a great example for them, of why it's good to get off the ground.
