Interesting pitch for a diamond fly

So I bought an 8'6"x8'6" funky forest tarp off Mikeinfhaz and I was messing around with one of my old tent poles and came up with this interesting pitch. It keeps my tarp SUPER taught and opens it up while at least seemingly increasing coverage. Sorry the pictures are a bit fuzzy. The option I picked on my camera had a long exposure and my hands were a bit shaky, but I think you can get the idea of how the system works.

Edit: After thinking about it though I am worried about the extra tie outs. They aren't reinforced like the corners....think the stitching can hold up to being staked down?

Hmmm didn't attach the first time and it appears you can't attach in an edit so here they are.

Interesting. Seems like someone else had something similar, but the pole was shorter and was underneath the tarp. Wonder what it would do in the wind?

Stays pretty solid in the wind. It was gusting the whole time I was pitching it. I really want to find a flatter spot though to try it out.....just not many spots in my apartments. Also seems like with this setup I can put it in porch mode incredibly easily by just removing the tie outs on one side or at least putting longer tie outs.

Here's Grizzly Adams version of that use of a tent pole.

2Q did a similar rig with a hex tarp. Ther's a picture somewhere in the gallery.

That's the one I remember....I'll have to check out Mr Grizz's as well.

I wonder what the length of 2Q's tent pole is? You can get lightweight poles at tarptent for a resonable price. 45" up to 54".

I took the picture (and it is in my gallery) but that rig is Dutch's.

I've used poles with tarps in 2 ways. First, the "quonset hut" approach, puts the arch at the head end (where it is needed for a bridge hammock).

The second approach pushes the tarp apart--again at the head end--using a shorter pole that does not need to bend.

poles are a nice way to get more run under a tarp without a lot of extra weight.

There's a fellow who did that with his stock HH tarp on Just Jeff's site. Here's the photos, or find it near the bottom of the page on the previous link.

I'll attempt to put the photo here. We'll see if it works.

    Edit: It worked.

Finally got a chance to get better pictures. Also messed around with using grip clips for asym tie outs but I really need longer tree huggers to get a looser hang so that these can pull out properly. Should these be positioned in the center of off center?
