    hammock sleeves/snake skins?

Looking at getting these for my hammock and tarp. I see many are sold in a set where they meet somewhere in the middle, and others are a single unit, tapered on one end and pulled over the whole hammock like a condom.

I'm thinking I'd like singles but want to get the input from experienced members before I decide.

    Thanks

I prefer the two that meet in the middle; seems easier to me to setup and take down; more control over the part of my tarp that's still wrapped up. I don't suppose it makes a real big difference though. I find that mest are lighter weight than the silnylon ones I started with. Another very minor considerations is haveing one big ball of snake skin on our ridgeline on only one side versus two smaller bundles, one on each side. I think it looks better, more balanced with the two.

The material is a bigger consideration in my opinion, I like it to be light weight and breathable.

+1 on the two piece ones. I had a pair made for my first tarp which was the superfly. I recently bought an edge tarp for fairer weather and I bought another two piece set of skins for it as well. Both of mine are made out of no-see-um netting. The advantage of this over silnylon is that the mesh ones allow your wet tarp to dry while the silnylon doesn't breathe. Just skin up the tarp after shaking to remove what you can of the water and place them in an outside mesh compartment on your pack.

I prefer two. I had a single, it didn't seem to fit as well. It was always too loose at the far end. If I had to do it over, I would get ones that breath.

The benefit I see with the single is that I never had to fiddle too much in the middle. With my two skins now, the tarp is large enough that I have to work it in, and when I do that with the second for an overlap it tends to push the first one away since it's stuffed full. Never had that problem with my single, but then again that one was larger and didn't get as stuffed.

For the hammock, I've gotten lazy slugs. Used them for the first time on my fishing trip about a month ago (trip report), and will never look back. The ease of set-up, not having to pack away your quilts and hammock separately, is superior.

    Re: hammock sleeves/snake skins?

When you look around at the people that use them... Most people are using doubles... There is probably a reason for that... I have not used any, but I do have a set of doubles on order right now from mountain goat gear...

+1 on the breathability. My next set will be DIY Mesh Skins.

I use a single know as a Python Skin works great. Don't have a photo, more of a slide show
