Single layer for my size.

I am about to sell a WBB XTC in 1.7 DL. I am not comfortable in it, it feels like the double layers are causing me issues. I am 6'3" and 275. As the dangerbird is available in a stronger fabric for single layer, does any one have any recommendations or experiences they can share with me?

Can you describe the issues with the DL better?

It felt like the top layer was "higher" than the bottom layer and it was the part that was under tension. I have an Eno DN that I have many nights in have always been comfortable in. I can lay at a diagonal and get a pretty flat.

Well technically, the top layer IS higher

Guess I'm just having a hard time visualizing what could be causing this feeling for you. I have owned a bunch of DL hammocks and could never tell the difference between them other than the added support of the two layers. My only guess would be that you are used to the flex of the material that ENO uses, as it stretches alot more than a DL 1.7 would.

You are correct, technically it is higher. Maybe I was expecting more than I should have been.

I set up my Eno last night and was extremely comfortable. I think I will stick with single layer.

It might be the difference in fabric. 1.7 is not as stretchie and more comfy maybe as the ENO material. I had the same problem using the Traveler. Just didn't like the feel of the 1.7 fabric and not enough stretch to suit my comfort that I was seeking. Its a great hammock, but I think it might just be the type of fabric that your dealing with and so used to. I tried to get my wife into the Traveler,,the minute she jumped into it, I couldn't talk her into using it just one nite as she loves the feel of the parachute material of a Grand Trunk and is so hard headed she wouldn't even give it one nite, just because of the feel.

This may be the opposite of what you're looking for, but....

My latest personal hammocks are using a single layer of my Poly Nylon Blend in 2.3 oz Woodland Camo or 2.3oz ACU Camo. These are plain weave fabrics with a nice soft feel. I originally put a comfort rating of 265lbs on these fabrics, but I'm confident that they'd go higher with a slight increase in stretch.

I've been using these in the workshop as my everyday sleepers and they've been rock solid holding my 265lb rear end off the ground. Nice and firm, no "springy, bouncy" feeling, and zero signs of wear yet.

Unlike Acer, I don't like that stretchy feeling in my hammocks. I feel like I'm sinking too far down into the hammock as it wraps around me. Also I don't care for the clammy, slippery feeling you can sometimes get with a ripstop nylon on a hot Summer night.
