Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees.
The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy,

My new top and bottom quilts have a slight but distinct poultry smell. It is only noticeable in still air when it is humid. I have not noticed this with any other down items such as jackets, ever. Since the quilts are made with higher quality down, but the hydrophobic down, I wonder if it might be the hydrophobic treatment off gassing?
I had the strong dog smell with my incubator 20 after first use but not when I received it from HG. I called HG and was going to send back for re stuff, but when I went to box it up a couple days later the smell was all but gone. I guess I expect it will return under the right conditions, however I don't think I would want to have to try to sleep with a top quilt that smelled like that though. Luckily I had no such issues with top quilt from another maker under the same conditions
The last two weekends I've been using my new HG TQ (40°) -- and it definitely has a funky smell. Sleeping with it was a little interesting as it got a little cool a few of the nights and I pulled it up over my head only to take a deep breat and push it back down.
I guess I need to hang it up and air it out and see if it is any better on this weekend's trip.
if this was a poll, i'd be checking the box that said my Inc0 and Inc20 from hammockgear.com stinks too, poultry farm is a good way to describe it. almost reminds me of road kill too. it's not a pleasant smell.
Been out with my HG 20º TQ a couple times now, and aired it out for 8+ hours in the sun twice now. Still smells.
Does anybody know how to wash a down quilt that's treated with DRW? I hate to even wash it since the DWR finish on the down only lasts for so many washes, but that smell is getting to me a little bit.
No smell that I can tell. But if it did I would stick it into a cedar chest for a bit or take it outside depending on humidity lvls for the day.

My quilts also smell like a goose/wet dog. I was concerned about it at first but over time I have gotten used to it and now it just smells like camping to me. It gets a bit worse when there is a lot of moisture in the air. I always make sure to hang dry it after use and its good to go.
“The word hammockable (Meaning: two trees that are the perfect distance apart between which a hammock can be hung) is not in the dictionary, but it should be.”
I can't say I've ever noticed a smell, nor have the people to whom I loan my quilts. It doesn't mean there isn't a smell; I just can't smell it.

I think it's also all about the batch of down they use in your specific quilt. My HG 40º TQ, and 20º UQ didn't smell. My 20º TQ does – and it really isn't that bad, but I do notice it at times and wish there wasn't a smell at all.
I think my next step, instead of washing it, is to get some new tennis balls and run it in the dryer with those and a ton of dryer sheets.
