1.1 is the original ripstop material, then it gets the sil treatment adding the extra weight. So yea, its normal.
Deniers vary from 7d to 1000d normally. Then there are coatings applied, sil or polyurethane(PU), to give the fabric a water proof or repellent state.
30d is the norm for tarps used here. 70d is a bit heavier.
Cuben is a whole 'nother animal.
