    Hi from Maine

    Hi all,
My family and I are in Oxford, ME. I am excited about finding this forum and have been reading as much as I can to learn. My husband and I used to go tent camping a lot, but then almost 7 years ago we started sleeping in hammocks full time at home. Ever since then we have dreaded the thought of sleeping in anything but a hammock. So we rarely spend the night anywhere but home or a camp that we own where we can hang our hammocks. We use a mix of Brazilian and Mayan hammocks.

This summer we are planning a kayak trip on the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and our family was dreading the thought of sleeping on the ground. So I started looking online for options and came across this site and others. Now we are excited because we don't have to sleep on the ground.

Welcome aboard from Florida. We had spent 5 of the last 7 summers in Maine and after missing the last 2 years we are looking forward to getting back up there this summer.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

    Hi from Maine

Another warm welcome from Florida. I am a regular visitor to Maine in all seasons, including this past February.
Coincidently, another new member from Maine signed up yesterday.

Welcome, from Ohio. It's pretty cool that you both have been full time hammock sleepers and didn't even know about us. I've been trying, without any luck, to convince my husband to throw out our bed.

Out of curiosity, what or how were you guys insulating under you?

We have used a variety of things. Everything from wrapping ourselves in down comforters (with a fleece sleeping bag inside when colder), down comforter with down mattress under, to sleeping bags with fleece sleeping bags inside.
I want to try to figure out if I can make an UQ to use with my Brazilian hammock for winter as we live in a drafty old farmhouse and I sometimes still get cold. My daughter uses a sleeping bag with a bunch of blankets and stuffed animals. She says she is warm enough when I ask. Sometimes I look and wonder where she is in her hammock as all you can see is blankets and stuffed animals.

At least we live in a post and beam farmhouse so there is plenty of places to hang. We have places to hang all over the house, even the kitchen.

Welcome, Shelly. I lived in Maine for two years and loved it. Enjoyed learning to kayak while there, too, and hope to get back to it some day.

This is a great site and we're glad you're here.

    Hello
I just read your intro thread. We actually have two hammocks from Byer. One of them is the one my daughter sleeps in full time. She loves it.
