Cool Art Loeb Backpacking Trip, May 3rd - 5th

I've been wanting to hike the Art Loeb Trail since I hiked a portion of it in preparation for my charity hike last fall. I've set aside 2.5 days to hike the trail beginning early afternoon on May 3rd. I 'think' I may have a coworker or two that 'might' join me but I'm not certain they're all in. So I'm wondering if anyone on HF might be interested in hiking with me.

If anyone's interested, let me know and we can go from there.

I've hiked the section between Black Balsam Knob and Shinning Rock before. If the rest of the tral is like that section, then water will be rare. Make sure to bring plenty of water volume.

Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.
    Pursuing it with eager feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."

Great trail. Hiked it back in October, but due to closings in the Shining Rock Wilderness area for camping, had to change my plans a bit. Which side were you starting from? Camp Daniel Boone or Davidson River Campground? Either way you'll love it

Most likely Camp Daniel Boone side. I've been wanting to hike it for a while now and hopefully I'm going to finally get the opportunity.

It's a great trail. Be careful if you're unfamiliar with the area right around Shinning Rock. You can miss it completely if you are coming from Camp Daniel Boone and stay to the right after the narrows. Look for the trail to continue to the left and follow up to the top from there. A spring can also be found right after Shinning Rock on the far left heading towards Tennent Mtn.
    Enjoy the trip.

We have a group of men at church considering this trail for a 3-4 day trip around July 4th. I am considering going along, so I would love to hear a trip report from you guys, or if anyone can point me to some good planning resources I would be greatly appreciative. I have done a little research, but I don't think we have finalized the exact date or start point just yet.

Hi Brian. Let me know. I think I've go two coworkers committed to going so I'm no longer worried abut hiking alone.

I'm not great at trip reports but I'll try, especially since I may be the only hammocker.

I'm also interested in other planning resources, especially the locations of water sources.

Thanks CrazyMike, would love to hear the "hammock" perspective, I think the other guys i will be going with are all ground dwellers.
