    Hammock regulations in TN

Anyone in or around Tellico Mountain in TN know what the regulations are for hammocks in Cherokee National Forest? I am planning on going up and hiking out probably the Bald River Falls trail (CNF Trail 88) and camping along the trail with my wife, son and daughter this weekend. I had my wife call the Tellico Ranger station to ask a few question about local regulations there. When she mentioned hammocks they immediately informed her that hammocks were not allowed. I find this hard to believe when I have yet to run across anything about this. I have often gotten very conflicting reports from ranger offices when asking questions and typically find that they have almost no clue as to what exactly the law states in regards to a lot of this stuff.

So does anyone have some insight on this or can point me to somewhere that I can print out the specific regulations. The ranger office also said that you need a Tellico daily fishing permit to fish anywhere in Tellico Mountains; however, straight from the TWRA website, the permit is only needed on Tellico River, Citico Creek and Green Cove Pond and NOT required for Bald River which is what we asked about.

Was the question asked about Dispersed Camping. I can understand getting a NO to hanging in the Designated Camping Area but I have not found anything that says NO to hanging in the Dispersed Camping Rules. I have checked other National Forest/Park rules on Dispersed Camping and still no mention of NO hammock camping.

You can hang anywhere that camping is permitted in Cherokee NF. Once your 100' off a road, it's wide open. You'll be fine along the Bald River Trail. My daughter and I did an overnighter in there last spring. Beautiful area. There are several campsites near the river all along the Bald River trail. The Bald river trail is in the Bald River wilderness area, so wilderness rules apply.

You do not need a daily fishing permit for Bald River. Yes for Tellico and Citico. Be aware it is turkey season, so you may see some hunters.

Have a great trip. That's one of my favorite areas.

    Re: Hammock regulations in TN

Bald River is one of my favorite places around. I grew up down there though, so I am biased just a little!

I have hammock camped in that area several times. Beautiful place, lots of sites to choose from, good trout fishing. Have not had the chance to do much hiking there but i know there are many great trails in the area that i hope to travel this summer

from a head of the NPS, i was told that it SHOULDNT be an issue but to take it case by case as there was no way to get an answer from EVERY NPS facility. take that for what its worth
