in the UK looking for trees about 14foot apart
More hassle than what its worth.
Buy heat sealable fabric, buy a valve, buy some open cell foam...then construct the whole thing and pray it doesnt leak.
$ for $, you'll get a better deal buying one ready-made, and that will come with a warranty.
But some folks have diy'd them on Ultralight Backpacker (another forum) and on youtube.
