    4 day outting with Daughter

    Hey all

Im going out onna 4 day with my daughter this week end.
I have taken her on long day hikes and camping but never onna full on backpacking trip.

She started out asking me about my hike in 2000 on the AT and this trail has had held a big spot in our lives.
As we talked she said she wanted to hike it this summer while she was out on break.
well we got her geared out and I gave her my old kelty ext-frame and hit the scales, full water and 4 days of food and gear (tent. stove, sleepingbag and sutch) got her to 32lbs.
Not to bad seeings how I had it to 48 most of my hike.

I have dropped my tent and will be using the Claytor JH.
so far Ive cut 5 to 6 lbs from 48/49 down to 43 this is good for me.
I never could do the ultra lite thing. (not a bad thing for those who do, Rock on my feather footed friends! )

Just thought Id get this all down to start with and up date with the Battle count when we get back.

(insight note: man I hope she does ok, Id hate to have to lug my pack her pack and her for 4 days)

    Back early
Hiking was fun. Started off a little difficult but Stasi out hiked me the first day.
On the second my legs warmed up and I was good to go.

    Hammock :
    was great!
Being off the ground gives you a host of camp sites, rocky uneven ground not a prob.
Set up was a whole lot easier.
Plus your gear is within arms reach and not all over you while you sleep.
Did find out its time for a new sleeping bag.

As for why we came home early,
well it not a good Idea to make a joke about Bears to a a hyper imaginative 15yr old young lady when your 50 miles away from any living soul

Ahh the ever present bear joke. My dad did that once to my little sister and instead of freaking she spent the entire weekend complaining about not seeing a bear, go figure. Bears are the least of your worries, its the smelly hikers upwind you have to worry about.

That would be my daughter, too. She made a tally of all the animals we spotted in Yellowstone, and was able to correct her brother when he spotted a marmot and called it a beaver.

    Hello! This is s.W.W's daughter.
Just wanted to say that it is a dad's job to give their daughters a hard time. I tend to exaggerated situations too much.
    Eh...

I had a ton of fun though.
My pack wasn't as hard to carry around as i thought it would be. and I actually enjoyed the camping out in the woods more than i thought i would.
Dad's actually got me thinking about how much easier it would be to get a hammock.
Oh well. Definitely looking forward to next time.
anyways, that's all from my end
