Ahh the ever present bear joke. My dad did that once to my little sister and instead of freaking she spent the entire weekend complaining about not seeing a bear, go figure. Bears are the least of your worries, its the smelly hikers upwind you have to worry about.

Whooo. I feel your pain. Made the mistake of telling my "critters in camp" stories to my daughters and nephew right before we turned in at camp last year. Spent half the night sitting up with my nephew until he finally fell asleep. It really worried them. I've learned to keep my stories to myself, at least until daylight.

    That cracked me up!!!!
I have a 17 year old daughter so I understand. I often make the wonderful choice of making a boob of myself in public when with my daughter just to see her wilt and turn red..... a Dads privilege! We have never backpacked but I imagine that you were just doing what is instinctual..... we Dads must! Can't help it.
Be thankful for the 2 days with your teen .... it was true quality time I bet. Lately for me it is spending time teaching my daughter to drive so we get some good time together and we like to go to the record and incense store and hang out. Her and her Mom, my wife do other things together and we all do family stuff but the Dad/Daughter time is precious.

you did two things right.... you took your daughter and you brought her back when she freaked. Those two things will say more to her down the road about how you feel about her than almost anything else. You took her seriously and paid attention to her needs and concerns. I know too many girls who would love to have a dad like that in their lives. Good job. There will be other times to do it again.
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

    Hello! This is s.W.W's daughter.
Just wanted to say that it is a dad's job to give their daughters a hard time. I tend to exaggerated situations too much.
    Eh...

I had a ton of fun though.
My pack wasn't as hard to carry around as i thought it would be. and I actually enjoyed the camping out in the woods more than i thought i would.
Dad's actually got me thinking about how much easier it would be to get a hammock.
Oh well. Definitely looking forward to next time.
anyways, that's all from my end

open your own account pawfoot... we can help you work out the hammock thing. Then you won't have to post under your dad's name.

That would be my daughter, too. She made a tally of all the animals we spotted in Yellowstone, and was able to correct her brother when he spotted a marmot and called it a beaver.

I've got an 8wk old daughter and I'm hoping she turns out like my sister. Just can't let her greatgrandma get around her she freaks when I go out because of deranged psychos and bears.
