I did it again, #$@?!!

I had plans to setup and test some of the DIY gear this weekend while the kiddo was gone. I figure it's easier to setup next to the house and discover what gear is best for what temps, than to freeze your tush later and wish you'd brought more... right?

Well, last night I sat down after hours of sewing and found it was too dark to set up my hammock. I'd not been paying attention and should have set it up in daylight hours while I still had energy and could see knots and toggles. I was so irritated, because not only did I miss last night, but I didn't do it Friday either.

GRRRRRRRR!!!

Anybody else have issues pushing day to day life to the side, for a bit, to enjoy a little hammock fun?

Yeah, I feel your pain. I had some grandiose plans this weekend and if it wasn't family issues, it was something else. Here it is Sunday and none of my plans came to fruition. Maybe next weekend.

Sounds like a good opportunity to practice setting up in the dark to me.
good skill to have. When me and the kids hang out behind the house we try to set up before it gets dark but don't always make it. How days even the kids are pretty proficient at setting up in the dark. A headlamp is your friend...

Get one those cheap head lamps at Wallyworld. I use them of a regular basis when setting up in the dark when I am out hiking

I seriously considered setting up in the dark, but with very little experience setting up under any conditions I didn't think it a good idea as I'm sure I'd miss something. Had I been tired during daylight, or alert at night I would have done it, but with the combination of the two I'd almost guarantee I'd hit dirt or take a dead branch to the face at some point.

I guess I'll just have to be extra prepared when the kid and I go out this Friday. I shall try my best not to pack the kitchen sink!

Get one of those halogen lights to set up in the backyard. They're great for a multitude of things and put of masses of light.

I understand your pain fbg...I haven't had any time at all to go camping in over a year. I am hoping to get out soon, if I don't, it'll be at least 6 more months till I can.

I set up in the dark friday night. I had both hammocks hung for me and my friend, and one tarp put up before I noticed the dead tree leaning over where we were hanging at.

Setting up in the dark at home with marginal light is good practice. It also can be painful. Pay special attention to how your whoopies fit over the toggles. Side slip = instant grounding. DAMHIK
