Removing the bug net from my WBBB...

Ok, so here is my situation...I have both the WBBB and the Traveler with the bug net. Both have their advantages. I like the simplicity of the Traveler and the option to use the bug net when conditions warrant it but I feel I get a better/more comfortable lay with the WBBB. So what I am thinking about is removing the attached bug net from the WBBB and then using the bug net from the Traveler when necessary. Essentially it turns the WBBB into a WBBB XLC without the extra length. Also when using the Traveler bug net with the WBBB I would have the freedom to be able to reach over the sides of the hammock to make adjustments to my quilt. That becomes a challenge withe the WBBB when you have the bug net incorporated into the hammock.

Has anyone removed their bug net from the WBBB? Was it difficult? Did it/would it compromise the integrity of the hammock. Thoughts? Feedback?

Honored to be among other hangers.

Have you considered having a zipper mod put on so that the entire netting can be zipped back and tucked away?

To some degree that can already be done by unzipping and rolling the beg net back in its current state. There are tie outs that would keep it in place. Then I could use the Traveler bug net and have the freedom I am looking for to adjust the UQ. This does cause redundancy in that I would have 2 bug nets and additional weight. Something to consider. My hammock stand is up so I'll toy with this option.

The bug net on the Blackbird is a integral part of the hammock so please check with Brandon aka warbonnetguy here on HF before doing any mods.

I wouldn't do it - what was once a WBBB becomes a botch job.

I wouldn't do it either. Why not sell the WBBB and buy another light weight net-less hammock? I can recommend Wilderness Logics, but those hammocks are 11'. Maybe a Speer hammock? I hear they are very comfortable, although they're only 8.5'.

Or buy a RoamingGnome. You can get the 10' version. The bug net is fully zippered, so you can get to your underquilt from both sides.

Sell that and order an xlc. Plenty of people would gladly take the hammock your unhappy with off your hands...

I have my reservations as well. I don't think cutting it off would affect the hammock at all but as it is it could be sold on the secondary market. If you modify it, it might be harder to sell. You could see if Brandon could make a netless BB. Just a thought.

If the only reason for wanting to get rid of the integrated net is underquilt shift, you might want to look into quilt hooks. I haven't used them, yet, but maybe they solve your slippage problem. If that's the case, you could keep the WBBB as is, and it would be lighter than using a net-less hammock plus net.

That's a great idea...but so is having a netless blackbird made...
