Hi from DFW, TX...from a born again "n00b"

Hi all. I am returning to the sport of hanging after a *cough**cough* year hiatus.

I learned to backpack in the Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout, 1984) and started hanging back then to open up more places to sleep. There are many times I went to bed swinging in the trees only to find running water under my hiney when I woke up. Site selection on the AT during a rain storm always included a bit of guess work...

Hammocks have come a long way from the "a$$ net" I started with. Add a couple unsuspecting sticks as spreaders and a foam pad, hang it under a semi-permeable tarp...and it was like a night at the Four Seasons...if the Four Seasons had mosquitoes and iodine in the water.

So, it is apparent that there is a lot to learn...and hopefully a few places where I can offer some "old school" advice.

Welcome, from Tulsa. I had to go to DFW this past weekend. Holly construction batman. The dfw is bigger than road island and Vermont. My poor bike overheated on the loop.
Anyway the people here are full of great info. Hope you enjoy

I hear-tell there is a Merit Badge for hammocking now. I could have earned that one along with my Basketry Badge.
