    Greetings from Eugene, OR, USA!

Thought I'd introduce myself, so here goes...

My real name is Shadow (online name is Demitri), and I have been a wilderness survival expert for almost 25 years now; and a wilderness professional for about 7 years.

I discovered hammock camping about a year ago along with my wife and a friend of ours. I first discovered there was a community of hammock campers only yesterday.

The best part? Many of the tips and tricks I have found in the forum so far are things I figured out over the course of last season (Apr - Oct 2012). Found a few new tips and tricks by looking thru the forum here.

This looks like a nice place full of intelligent and like-minded people. I look forward to the adventures we can share!

    Cheers!

Everyone: Thanks for the welcome! ^.^

old4hats: Sure thing! There are many tricks and tips I have either learned from others, or thru personal experience. I'm happy to share them... As soon as I figure out what others do and don't know, I'll know what best to share!

Mannowar: That's. Just. Awesome! Reminds me of when I had a Texas driver's license, Las Vegas PI license, and an Oregon mailing address; all while living in the Colorado Rockies! ^.^

peripatew: Cool! At the same time I got into hanging, I also got my wife and a friend of ours into it as well. Is there a Eugene hanging community too? If not, I say we all get together and start one!

There a few hanger's I've met (only online so far) in Eugene. Here's a post about the upcoming Oregon "hang" though: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=67951

I've yet to make to an official hang, my time is pretty limited, so I'm usually doing a quick overnighter with my son.

Last season (Apr - Oct 2012) my wife and I, along with our hanging friend, spent approx 4 days/week hanging off road and off trail in the coast range. We avoided campgrounds and even official trails. We hiked deep into the bush and found spots to make our own camp, where I then taught survival techniques and temporary shelter building to my wife and our friend. It was awesome.

Since I only just discovered that there is a hanging community, I haven't done any "official" hanging either. Sounds like it could be fun tho!

This season my wife and I are working on setting up a bike rig and pedaling our road tripping around the state. The goal is to build up our skill a bit at a time until we can take a trip to Portland and back in August, and then a trip to BC Canada and back after that.

If the timing is right, hopefully we can make that Oregon hang by pedaling our way there. Here's hoping!
