Mine is, I weight the actual packed pack for my baseweights.

Where did people shave weight?
Thank you for stating your pack weight including food and water. That will help you in lessening your weight.
First, what percentage of your body weight do you feel comfortable carrying? Going with that then...
... Look at your food to see what you can change out
The pack itself is also a good place. Can you get a similar capacity or greater capacity pack that weighs less...
... You may also use the greater capacity pack to get lighter BUT bulkier items...Underquilts, topquilts, down jackets, etc.
Then you can look at clothing options, hardware, stove kits and on and on.

It's fun! I've started weighing everything!

Going UL has saved my outdoor experience.

21 pounds for everything isn't that heavy. How does it feel when you carry it a few miles? I have friends who will carry 40 lbs and others about 15 pounds for a weekend trip. Its all a matter of personal preference.

Of course, now that you have a scale everything is suspect!

Bigger people have bigger, and heavier everything, packs, clothes and quilts etc. so just because one person has a 15lb base weight and anther's is 21lbs really might not mean that much.
I am a 200lbs. I was just curious what others are carrying. I agree though, bigger gear = heavier

I range somewhere between 13-20lbs depending on the temp/time of year/rip length.

Since I've dropped weight in the pack, I find I can carry more luxury items... Camera, kindle, etc and still be comfortable.

Good luck... And as I told MDSH when he started, wait till you weigh your clothes. That can be eye opening.
